Favorite Romantic Movie Lines

"I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."  Harry Burns in When Harry Met Sally

"Dancing's just a conversation between two people. Talk to me."  Justin Matisse in Hope Floats

"But there are some things I know for certain: always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can."  Sally Owens in Practical Magic

"Well, it was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were supposed to be together... and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home... only to no home I'd ever known... I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like... magic."  Sam Baldwin in Sleepless in Seattle

Stuff I Love
  • Cats: I have two. They are my writing buddies. Sure, one of them likes to sprawl over my laptop, pinning my hands to the keyboard, but I think that's her way of saying, "Keep at it, Mom!"
  • Pizza: I could eat it everyday. The mere mention of the word makes me want to have it. Cheese and black olives are my toppings of choice.
  • Outdoors: I can't resist the allure of wildlife. My favorite place to write is on my patio. My backyard is a National Wildlife Federation-certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat. It's got a cool sign and everything. I love to write amongst the birds, butterflies, dragonflies, even the bees.
  • Summer: I was born in July and summer just runs through my veins. I have a theory that Heaven is an eternal summer...or a giant Barnes and Noble in the clouds. Either one will work for me.
  • Vampires: Scary ones, sexy ones, even sparkly ones.
  • The Moon: She's just so poetic.
  • Writing, of course.
  • Reading
  • Teaching
  • Home Improvement
  • Laughing
  • My family: I'm a save-the-best-for-last type of gal, so putting my family at the bottom of this list actually means they're at the top.

Stuff that Bugs Me
  • Litter: There's just no need for it.
  • Driving: I definitely would love a chauffeur.
  • Disorganization: Messes simply can't be tolerated.
  • Grocery shopping: Whenever I step into a grocery store, I'm instantly NOT hungry. Nothing looks good to me. Happens every time.
  • Uncooperative characters: I mean, really. I'm the author. Aren't I supposed to be in charge? I'm not in charge of anything else. I should at least get to be queen of my fictional world.
  • That I haven't found any real vampires yet.
  • Excuses: Don't make them. Instead, make improvements.
  • Last minute changes: Spontaneity is fun and all, but not really. I like to have a plan.
  • Jello: Nothing edible should wiggle that much.
  • Clowns
  • Spam: The meat and the mail.
  • Stepping in cat puke...when I'm barefoot. Love the kitties, hate the vomit.
  • Evidently, this list is endless, so I'll finish off with papercuts. Carpenters are nice enough to sand the sharp edges of their woodworking. Paper makers need a similar system.

Writing Stuff
  • I talk to my characters when I go on walks in my neighborhood. I look like a complete nut, but I'm always in good company.
  • The last names of many of my characters come from town names I've collected while driving on Route 91 in New England.
  • I love researching careers for my characters. It's like getting the opportunity to try on the job for a little while.
  • Ideas come to me in two places. The first is the shower. Something about hot water and fruit-scented shampoo just open up a portal to plots. The second is in the middle of the night. I keep a pad and pen in my nightstand to scribble down ideas that wake me up in the wee hours. Most of the time I need a secret decoder ring in the morning to decipher the writing done in the dark, but...
  • I love vampires, but refuse to write about them.
  • I consider watching movies research. Yes, it is. Shut up.
  • I outline. I stray from the dang thing like a drunken pirate trying to sail a straight line, but the essence of a plan is there. It's like a safety net.
  • I write best between the hours of noon and 4:00 p.m.
  • I can't go a day without writing something.
